Zustand: Gut. Taschenbucherstausgabe. XVII, 844 (2) Seiten mit einigen Abbildungen. 22,2 cm. Umschlaggestaltung: Celestino Piatti. Lesetipp des Bouquinisten! Guter Zustand. G. B. Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 5th or later Edition. Douglas Hofstadters book is concerned directly with the nature of maps or links between formal systems. However, according to Hofstadter, the formal system that underlies all mental activity transcends the system that supports it. If life can grow out of the formal chemical substrate of the cell, if consciousness can emerge out of a formal system of firing neurons, then so too will computers attain human intelligence. Gdel Escher and Bach is a wonderful exploration of fascinating ideas at the heart of cognitive science: meaning, reduction, recursion, and much more.

Softcover. Zustand: Fine in wraps. 8vo. 778 pp. With 152 black and white plates/illustrations, bibliography and index, Later printing of the anniversary edition. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the book stands as a metaphorical fugue on minds and machines in the spirit of Lewis Carroll. While concerned directly with the nature of 'maps' or links between formal systems, Hofstadter asserts that the formal system that underlies all mental activity transcends the system that supports it. I.e., if consciousness can emerge out of a formal system of firing neurons, then so too will computers attain human intelligence.
