Rowlingâ , and â Thomas Taylor1997â (lacking the space) on the copyright page, â 1 wandâ listed twice (as the first item and last item) on the â Other Equipmentâ list on page 53, Wendy Cooling quote at the base of the front board. Only 500 copies of the first printing were published, 300 of which were distributed directly to libraries. Volumes 2-6 are all first editions and are fine in fine dust jackets. Each volume is signed by J.K. Rowling with the exception of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone which has an original promotional Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone card signed by Rowling laid in. Each are housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box by the Harcourt Bindery. An exceptional set, scarce and desirable, especially signed. Since the release of the first novel in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, on June 26th 1997, the books have found immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide. The series of seven books have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide, making them the best-selling book series in history, and have been translated into seventy-three languages.     Zustand: Very Good. First Edition, galley proof. EARLIEST KNOWN COPY OF HARRY POTTER; NO OTHER COPIES LOCATED. On February 26, 1997, this remarkable complete set of galley sheets was sent to the distinguished children's author and literary critic Fiona Waters. In the cover letter accompanying the galley (included here), Rosamund Walker, Children's Marketing Manager of Bloomsbury Publishing wrote, "Further to our conversation, I have enclosed a manuscript for your interest as promised. Once you've had a chance to have a look, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know your comments for pre-publication quotes." The "manuscript," already rejected by twelve other publishers, was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Waters read these advance galley sheets during a long train journey to Scotland and was immediately captivated by the tale of a young wizard named Harry Potter. While it was Ms. Waters' usual practice to discard galleys after reading them, she retained this one because she believed Harry Potter was a truly special and distinctive book. She wrote back to Bloomsbury Publishing with effusive praise, making a special point of noting that "There is something about Harry Potter that reminds me of Charlie Bucket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." In replying to Waters' letter, Rosamund Walker wrote that "I'm sure the author will be most flattered with the allusion to Charlie Bucket" - and indeed she was: for the statement was featured prominently on the back cover of the first edition. Historically significant, this is the only known set of advance galley sheets to have survived. It precedes the early June publication of some 200 bound proof copies as well as the first edition that famously appeared on June 26. Intended as they were for prominent reviewers, only a handful of such galleys were produced. Our copy belonged to a lead reviewer whose endorsement undoubtedly helped make the book the spectacular success it became. As Ms. Waters (who signed this galley on the first page) tells it, in recalling her first meeting with J. K. Rowling: "It was very shortly after the first book was published and I was invited to a party by Bloomsbury to celebrate it all. And when I was introduced to her [J. K. Rowling], she flung her arms around me and said, Oh, you are the lovely lady who gave me that wonderful review!" Note: By the late 1990s -well into the digital age of printing - publishers generally did not issue traditional galleys printed from a printing press, but rather printed a set of sheets from a file and copied them for distribution to a limited set of reviewers. All books are housed in full leather solander boxes with five raised bands, author s name, title and uncorrected proof stamped in gild to the spine. The front panels also bear the HP acronym familiar from the film franchise a lovely touch. An amazing collection and unique chance to obtain the only four uncorrected proofs produced in the entire Harry Potter series. When Rowling published the fourth instalment Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000) no proofs were issued as the publisher feared that the text could be leaked. This policy was kept for the remaining books as well and without any spoiler leaks kids and adults were queuing up bookstores at midnight of the respective publication dates in order to obtain a copy and start reading the continuation of the Potter saga. The uncorrected proofs contain a number of errors which were later corrected such as a J.A. instead of J.K. Rowling on the copyright page of the Philosopher s Stone copy. Nowadays J.K. Rowling is such a household name that nobody in the world would make such an error but back in 1997 Rowling was an unknown persona.     Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A very good or better example, one of the very rare 500 true first edition copies published by Bloomsbury in 1997. The publisher's laminated boards are in excellent condition with the mis-spelled Philospher's present to the rear panel, with the Wizardry and Witchcraft, rather than Witchcraft and Wizardry also present. The binding is very well preserved, tight and solid, with the publisher's original laminate entirely present. There are a few light scratches / marks to the laminate in places, with light wear to the corners, also with a little light shelf lean. Internally, the pages are clean and fresh with the usual toning to the page block, due to the cheap paper stock used in the printing of this title. There are a few pages with light folds to the corners. There was a small chip to the bottom corner of page 17, NOT AFFECTING ANY OF THE TEXT which has been expertly repaired by a paper archivist using period Bloomsbury paper. The end result is excellent with just a hairline mark where the paper has been applied. There is also a small repaired closed tear to page 46. There are a few, tiny ink spots to the top page-block. There is a Hampshire School library Service label to the front front end-paper, which is blank thus indicating that the book was never lent out by the library service. There is a Hampshire Library stamp to the copyright page. Included with this book is a Hogwarts Express card, signed by the author, with an accompanying letter of provenance from J K Rowlings P / A Fiddy Henderson, thanking the previous cards owner for their initial letter. Although this is a library copy destined for the library system, it was never lent out and, as such, is a lovely copy with the book in overall, very nice condition. Included with the book is a bespoke felt lined clam shell box with raised bands and with gilt lettering present to the spine. Custom made for the book's future protection. Very rare, and a remarkable survivor. Please be assured that there has been no restoration, re-colouring, or touching up whatsoever to the publisher's patterned boards.

This is one of these extremely rare latter copies, with a signed Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone illustrated bookplate loosely inserted. The latter is combined with a letter from J.K. Rowling s office. Printing number line: 10 - 1; Wendy Cooling quote to the front cover; '1 wand' twice on page 53; 'Philospher's' on the back cover; 'Wizardry and Witchcraft' [rather than 'Witchcraft and Wizardry'] to the back cover. No Dust Jacket as issued. Dedication with the date November 14, 1997, on the title page from parents to their 7-year-old daughter; below that is the name of the original owner in blue felt-tip pen. There are a couple of small dents to the front cover, and there is a small, light circular stain on page 84. For conservation purposes, the pages of the book have been made acid-free by a renowned conservator, from whom a certificate is issued. The lifespan of the book has increased fivefold thanks to this intensive treatment, protecting the pages from decay. In addition, Marchelma van Breugel, the worlds leading expert on modern paper conservation and restoration, did some minor restoration work to the covers of the book. The book is housed in a contemporary storage box with an inlaid image, lined with moleskin inside. The signed bookplate is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity (LoA) from Adam Houston (TheHarryPotterSpecialist), the world's sole J.K.     Uncorrected proof copy of the first book in the Harry Potter series, inscribed by the author "To Lesley, with best wishes, JKRowling". It is generally accepted that there were only 200 copies of the proof distributed to elicit orders for the published book or for review purposes. This is the first appearance of the complete novel in any form. Inscribed copies are rare. The text was slightly reset for the first English edition. In the proof many words are split between lines (and therefore hyphenated) and the author is given on the title page as "J. A. Rowling". On page 53, under the heading, "Other Equipment", "1 wand" is listed twice. This error was retained in the first edition. Errington AA1(a). Octavo. Original white and yellow wrappers with titles printed in black. Housed in a red quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery. Corners very slightly rubbed, three minor spots of foxing to front wrapper, consistent light soiling: a near-fine copy.

Spine edges and corners bumped, minor shelf wear. The binding remains vibrant and bright, and while it is evident that the book has been wellloved it remains a smart, bright copy. Very good overall. One of only 500 copies produced, this true first edition has become exceptionally rare and remains the most sought after book in the world. A few very tiny tip/edge rubs (hard to even see in the images) and no laminate issues,(which is unusual as most copies tend to have fully lifted or missing laminate). The interior pages are very clean, unusually bright and flat with only a hint of age toning. The pages have no handling marks, no writing, no marks, no stains and no foxing, no owners names and no inscriptions. JK Rowling's signature without any dedication is sought after. Additionally this is an early example of Rowling's signature, penned around the same time as publication when she was still unknown. Highly uncommon. True first editions are incredibly scarce, this being one of just 5,015 copies of the softback and is even more rare being signed. Just a touch of shelf wear to the fore edge and lower edges, minor lifting to lower front corner, small indent to rear cover without abrasion. Toning to the page edges as is common in this edition, although it is light and uniform. Pages remain clean and bright. 223 pp. Overall near fine condition, certainly one of the most sharp examples we have come across. One of just 5015 copies produced, the true first edition of this book has become increasingly difficult to find in good condition. With the hardback version now fetching values around pound;100,000 this scarce book is sought after indeed and held in esteem with other iconic pieces of children's literature such as Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit. Housed in a bespoke red cloth, felt lined, flat-backed solander case with titles in gilt to the spine. A superb example, the binding square and tight. The contents, with a few foxing spots to the edge of the early and last pages are otherwise fine throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. All of the first printing points can be observed including the Wendy Cooling quote to the bottom of the front cover, the misspelled Philospher s present to the rear cover along with the Wizardry and Witchcraft, rather than Witchcraft and Wizardry. The very well known error of 1 wand listed twice on page 53 along with the all important 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 number line listed on the copyright page and the missing space between Thomas Taylor1997. This is a stunning copy with no colour fading at all. There are no creases at all to the front and back covers but there is some very slight creasing to the spine. It has an incredibly tight binding, square with no shelf lean, a fine copy except for some very minor spotting to the half title page. This copy is clearly unread, with no internal inscriptions or writing of any kind. No dog eared pages, folds or creases to any of the pages.  Overall, an exceptionally beautiful copy that has clearly been very well looked after.

To the best of our knowledge and based on consultations we had with several reputable Harry Potter bookcollectors, it is known that only 9 (!) other copies of this exceptionally rare book have surfaced in the market over the past two decades. According to very well-known experts there are no copies with a print line 10-1, which indicates that a first Canadian edition has a print line 10-2. This ultra rare book is sold as part of a Full set of the first Canadian printings of the Harry Potter series, three signed books included with a Letter of Autenticity by the only J.K.
