The 6 by 9 inch hardcover book is 280 pages and in good condition. The gray cloth boards have some light bumping to the corners but there is no writing to the pages inside. The dust jacket is tucked inside but is badly folded, creased, and torn. It is signed by the author and inscribed to Florence Simons. This is Daniel Boorstin's copy. Boorstin was the twelfth librarian of congress from 1975 until 1987, appointed under President Ford. He was also an accomplished author of more than 20 books, contributing much to the fields of sociology and history. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1973, for his book, "The Americans: The Democratic Experience.". Signed by Author(s).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Herbert Block (illustrator). Simon and Schuster, New York, 1955. Hardcover. "Herblock's Here and Now" by Herbert Block, "250 cartoons and 30,000 words by Herbert Block". First Printing (stated). This book is in Very Good Condition, Dust Jacket is also in Very Good condition, and has protective acetate type over top of the DJ. This book has several "Signatures" none of which appear to be the authors. This may have been a special copy given to someone or similar? Uncertain as to importance here, however a few names and one title are legible: "James Watts, Editor "Ford Facts", Talbot Smith, Barney (Illigilble), Possibly Breudren or Braden? Sextin/Sexton, August Scholle". Through a simple goggle search, "James Watts" was an editor at the Detroit Free Press Newspaper co. at this time in history, and was somehow affiliated with the Auto Workers Unions. ( No Guarantee on that information, just from Goggle). From the inside front of the DJ: "The Drawings signed Herbblock are among the most brilliant political cartoons of our time. And the most influential. They are syndicated in more than one hundred and fifty news papers, at home and abroad. They have been awarded every conceivable award, including two pulitzer prizes. They are admired by all Washington (except perhaps, for several farthest right-wing politicians). Such politicians will not be happy to learn that Herb Block is a writer as well as an artist. He has written two books: Th eHerblock Book, Which was good enough to be awarded the (continued on back DJ cover) Sidney Hillman Award for the best Nonfiction book of the year; and now Herblocks Here and now, which combines the best Herbblock cartoons of the past three years with some of the most incisive and dynamic political writing of the past thirty." There is a black and white photo of the author on the back of the DJ. The book itself is bound in grey cloth with black and red lettering along with a single pictograph. has slight edge and spine wear, and light soil only. This is a very nice copy with potentially important signatures from the past, regarding newspaper publishing or similar.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Block, Herbert (illustrator). First edition. First printing [stated]. 280 p. 21 cm. Illustrations. This appears to be the author's third book. From Wikipedia: "Herbert Lawrence Block, commonly known as Herblock (October 13, 1909 October 7, 2001), was an American editorial cartoonist and author best known for his commentary on national domestic and foreign policy from a liberal perspective.Block was born in Chicago to a Catholic mother, Theresa Lupe Block, and a father of Jewish descent, David Julian Block, a chemist and electrical engineer. He started drawing at a precocious age, began taking classes at the Art Institute of Chicago when he was eleven. He adopted the "Herblock" signature in high school. After graduating in 1927, he attended Lake Forest College for almost two years. Block moved to Cleveland in 1933 to become the staff cartoonist for Newspaper Enterprise Association, a feature syndicate that distributed his cartoons nationally. He won his first Pulitzer in 1942, then spent two years in the Army doing cartoons and press releases. Upon discharge Block was hired as the chief editorial cartoonist for the Washington Post; he worked there until his death 55 years later. His personal assistant for 44 years was Jean Rickard, who was Executive Director of the Herb Block Foundation for its first 10 years. He never married, and, in the Post's employee index, he listed his address and place of residence as simply "The Washington Post." While in high school and then in college he began drawing some cartoons for the Evanston News-Index, mainly for the pleasure of being published. Toward the end of his second year at Lake Forest, he took some of these published cartoons and some unpublished ones to the Chicago Daily News hoping to get a summer job. The editor who looked at them said they would get in touch if they had anything. A few days later they phoned and asked Block to come in. An editorial page cartoonist was leaving the city and they could give him a try. He started Monday and never went back to school. The Herb Block Foundation awards the annual Herblock Prize in editorial cartooning, which began in 2004. Good. No dust jacket. Signed by author. Cover has some wear and soiling.

Illustrated with 250 cartoons, Herbert Block combines the best cartoons from the past three years with some of the best political writing of the past thirty years. Herblock won three Pulitzer Prizes for editorial cartooning (1942, 1954, 1979), shared a fourth Pulitzer Prize in 1973 for Public Service on Watergate, the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1994), the National Cartoonist Society Editorial Cartoon Award in 1957 and 1960, the Reuben Award in 1956, and the Gold Key Award (the National Cartoonists Society Hall of Fame) in 1979.
