Three-line personal greeting dated 1924 on the front flyleaf with an old price covered in black marker by the upper corner. Prelims, endpages and page edges foxed. Foxing scattered throughout. Decoratived blue cloth boards, lightly rubbed at the edges, with traces of flecking by the upper edger of the front board and minor wear at the lower front corner. The book is in three parts: The Land, The Invaders, and The Spirit of Syria. For the purposes of this reissue, the author revised the work and slightly abridged it, but no attempt was made to describe the changed conditions consequent on the War. Size: 8vo.

Bound in 3/4 morocco leather with matching marble paper covered cloth boards and gilt titles present to the spine. Leather lightly worn along the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid. John Fulleylove (18 Aug 1845 - 22 May 1908) was an English landscape artist and illustrator. Born in Leicester, he originally trained as an architect with local firm "Shenton and Baker", before becoming an artist in watercolours and oils. He exhibited widely in England from 1871 at venues in London such as the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Fine Art Society, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and in many other regional towns and cities. He became a member of the RI in 1879 and the ROI in 1883. Abroad, he painted in France,Italy, Greece and the Middle East. His watercolor illustrations appeared in several travel books, such as those by A & C Black. On 22 May 1908, he died at Hampstead. He was buried in Highgate cemetery.

A very good copy indeed, endpapers renewed. Seventy-seven full page colour illustrations, and fifteen black and white illustrations, all under captioned tissue guards. Split into three parts: i) The Land ii) The Invaders iii) The Spirit of Syria. Fulleylove's watercolours painted for an exhibition in 1900 include scenes of Jerusalem, Jericho, Galilee, Walls of Zion etc. Inman 36.
