The novel itself revolves around the false arrest of a young man who appeared to be part of a highway robbery but who was actually only an onlooker at the wrong place at the wrong time. He is brought to trial and sentenced to ten years in prison, which he serves until his untimely death. Interesting novel investigating both the perpetration of a crime as well as the injustices of the American court system. This copy warmly inscribed and signed by Woodruff at front free endpaper.
