Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Sharp Eyes - A Rambler's Calendar of Fifty-Two Weeks Among Insects, Birds and Flowers, by William Hamilton Gibson. 1892 First Edition. New York: Harper & Brothers, Franklin Square, 1892. Octavo, cloth bound, silver ans gilt imprinting on front cover and on spine, top edge gilt, replete with very high quality black and white illustrations by the author, 345 pp. (xx + 2 + 322 +1). Technically and officially, just Good, but in my opinion a bit better. Wear and some staining to front and rear boards, general darkening over the years. Early owners1891 signature ffep. Stout binding, and this can be read and consulted without fear. Contents are well-preserved, and produced using high quality glossy paper. A journal-book of 52 weekly nature walks by Gibson, following the inspiration of naturists like Thoreau in so doing. Personally, I like the illustrations - a lot. And there are a lot of them. The mystery? How did the first owner autograph the ffep in 1891 when it was published in 1892 ? Little bit of time-travel, or was he the beneficiary of an advance copy? Only the Shadow Knows. This person, whenever, clearly made good use of this year-long journal; the wear of the boards is the only reason its limited to the Good grade. See all images provided here (there are 10). Ships in stout protection. L32. William Hamilton Gibson (illustrator).…

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book might be best described as a combination of natural history, folklore, and poetry as it pertains to the changing seasons of the year. The author is a close observer of nature, especially as it manifests in rural settings. He has a particular interest in the small, frequently unnoticed, details and spectacles that accompany the changing seasons, viewed through the lens of the local flora and fauna. The book includes observations on everything from the first signs of spring's arrival in early March, the blooming of flowers and the courting rituals of butterflies in April and May, the appearance of certain species of birds in the summer months, to the gathering and storing of nuts by squirrels in the fall and the habits of frogs and toads in the winter. The book is full of curious facts and anecdotes, and the author has a gift for presenting his material so as to make it easily accessible to even the most casual reader. Whether discussing the habits of nut-gathering squirrels or the muffled songs of winter frogs, the author takes great care to capture the wonder and beauty that nature can offer to any attentive and patient observer, even in the seemingly quietest of times. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
