II: First edition of the supplement. The preface includes a summary of Daubeny's position on reform of Oxford University's course of instruction to include the natural sciences as an integral part of the general liberal arts curriculum. A second edition incorporating both works appeared in 1850. Daubeny (1795-1867) was a British chemist and botanist, though he was also known for his study of volcanic activity. He succeeded Kidd as professor of chemistry at Oxford in 1822.
