Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Not Stated (illustrator). An illustrated history of the Waldensians, also known as Waldenses, translated from the original French by William Hazlitt. The second edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with blind-stamping to the boards, and decorative gilt to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. The binder's label of Bone & Son to the rear paste down. Ink inscription to the front free end paper. Alexis Muston (1810-1888) was initially a priest of the Waldensian Evangelical Church in Italy, but he was forced to flee to France because of his writings on the Waldensians, which contradicted the Bishop of Pinerolo. In this work, Muston tells the story of the persecution of the Waldensians or Waldenses, who were part of an ascetic movement within Western Christianity, at odds with the Catholic Church. The text was translated from French to English by the notable critic William Hazlitt (1778-1830), and is illustrated throughout. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, fairly smart, with a little shelf wear to the boards, extremities, and head and tail of the spine, and darkening to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot throughout. Very Good. book.

Hugon & Gonnet, 78. Sul Muston, Fabbrini e Pasquet, Alexis Muston (1810-1888).
