Complete with original brown cloth dust jackets, now in mylar. The jackets show moderate wear. The rear panel to the jacket on Volume 2 has a 2.5 inch long by 1 inch wide damp mark with some wrinkles, but this does not affect the book beneath. Top edges of both text blocks are gilt, which has dulled. Prior owner's bookplate on front paste downs for both volumes. "Louise and Seymour Ullman". In volume one, between pages 16 and 17, there is toning where the ribbon bookmark was placed. In volume two there is a 1 inch long piece of tape placed at the margin on page 179-180; this does not affect the text. The text is toned but otherwise generally clean. There is a Glossary at the end of each volume. Collates complete with 10 full-page illustrations in each volume. An attractive edition.

Scott's classic late 12th century tale of the dwindling Saxon nobility on the eve of Richard I's capture by Leopold of Austria, also featuring the first modern characterisation of Robin Hood.
