He must have struggled often to avoid joining in that yell of pagan ecstacy in battle in the days of the American Revolution-of Oriskany and the massacre of Wyoming.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. 1st Edition. JOSEPH BRANT: MOHAWK BY HARVEY CHALMERS WITH ETHEL BRANT MONTURE 1955 1ST DJ. Quoting from the flap of the dust jacket: Here, for the first time, is told in its completeness the touching story of the twofold Joseph Brant - a man with the heart of a Mohawk, by no means devoid of Indian nobility, yet with the spirit of a Christian missionary - he was a conforming Protestant - facing a terrible conflict with the encroaching forces of the European West transplanted to America - an irresistible tide that was driving his Mohawk kin to the wall." I am pleased to offer: Joseph Brant: Mohawk, by Harvey Chalmers in collaboration with Ethel Brant Monture. This medium-sized hard cover book (5 ¾ x 8 ¼ inches, 364 pages) was published by the Michigan State University Press of East Lansing, dated 1955 and a First Edition. The book is bound in orange cloth with gilt titles on the spine and protected by a paper dust jacket. Aside from a Frontispiece which repeats the image of Joseph Brant found on the dust jacket, there are no illustrations in this book. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket, however, has seen some wear and tear. There is considerable edge wear including some big chips along the bottom edge and tears in the crease of the front flap. The small water stain visible on the bottom edge of the dust jacket does not seem to have penetrated the hard covers or the book itself. The hard covers are clean and unblemished but a bit muted. Inside, there is a lightly penned gift inscription on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
