Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. A very good copy of this field map which seems to be a remarkable survivor of the Boer War. The map is one of a set of nine and covers the overall central area of conflict. Issued to a scale of 1:250,000 (3.94 inches to the mile) by the Field Intelligence Department of Cape Town in March 1900, over the reproduced signature of the Director of Military Intelligence. Carries the disclaimer that "this map is not to be considered as absolutely accurate" - not entirely surprising in a war zone. The unfolded map measures approx 25 inches x 19 inches. It is backed on heavy cloth (linen?) and, apart from a couple of wear points where multiple folds meet, is extremely well preserved. Please see associated images. The map is bound into grey/brown cloth covers which show a two inch split to the top of the spine, which in no way compromises the overall integrity of the binding. Folded size of the map is approx 6.75 x 4.25 inches.
