C'est elle qui légua à Paris le Grand Palais, le Petit Palais et le pont Alexandre III, construits pour l'occasion. On y découvrit le cinématographe, l'escalier roulant, la fée électricité illuminant le Palais de l'Électricité, et les premières lignes du métro parisien inaugurées le 19 juillet. Quarante nations participèrent, et la section française — la plus imposante — réunit dans des pavillons éphémères le meilleur de l'art nouveau, de l'industrie et des arts appliqués.
