Primera edición en un ejemplar completo en sus cuatro volúmenes, muy raro en comercio. Renato de Grosourdy (1807-1867), profesional de la medicina, residió por años en la región del Caribe y por ende puede catalogarse como testigo presencial de las características y los usos que los habitantes daban a los numerosos integrantes de la muy rica flora tropical. Él convivió con los nativos y se interesó, ademá de lo relativo a la materia médica, por lo concerniente a la alimentación de aquellas poblaciones. Son abundantes las páginas dedicadas a los alimentos, preparación de comidas, caza y pesca, animales domesticos introducidos de Europa y Asia, y los autóctonos, aves, etc. En lo concerniente al estudio de la "botanica Caribeña", su obra además de ser muy bien trabajada desde la observación y catalogación própia, es por desgracia (rareza de la obra en comercio) casi desconocida. Queremos mencionar un magnífico trabajo sobre uno de los aspectos de esta obra: Lovera, José Rafael.
