Bears Carmichael's uncommon signature to the half title page. The jacket also in good condition with moderate edge wear, lightly faded along spine and a bit of staining to inside upper edge of rear panel and flap. Still a very presentable copy. Book is fine and without exception. Glassine jacket lightly edgeworn but near fine. Clamshell very lightly edgeworn and the internal box has had corners professionally repaired by Handbridge Bindery. Bamboo rod sample is present.

First edition, the DeLuxe issue, 1/128 copies (this #125) with a small pencil sketch of a plane by the illustrator, signed by him. 4to. xix, 296 pp. Illustrated from photographs and line drawings, plates, some in color, mounted color frontispiece portrait of the author, small piece of a bamboo Garrison fly-rod in leather case attached to slipcase. Inscribed in 1980 by Hoagy Carmichael to a student of his, the bamboo rodmaker Peter Phelps, on the half-title, below Seaman's drawing. Slipcase somewhat rubbed, else a fine copy. Publisher's brown morocco, gilt, thin gilt rules framing the boards, gilt spine title and devices between raised bands, green silk endpapers, all edges gilt, publisher's glassine dust jacket (tired, eroding along front joint) and half-leather and marbled board clamshell box, gilt title on spine. Dark green moire silk end pages show some minore discoloration, as shown in pics. Half leather and marble paper clam shell box titled in gilt on spine with a unique leather pull tab containing a bamboo specimen. The clamshell box, measures app. 9 3/4" x 12", is in near fine condition, with tape repairs at outer corners and slight wear elsewhere. Onion skin dust jacket shows some wear at edges and corners. Hoagy Carmichael is the son of the famous composer. He has written several other books himself, including a two volume set on the history of fly fishing on the Grand Cascapedia River.
