Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First English edition of this re-written version of *The Merchant of Yonkers*. Near fine lacking the dustwrapper. Inscribed by the author: "Hal - from a long friendship a world of regard. Thornton. SantA Fe April 2, 1958." Wilder revised his play *The Merchant of Yonkers* and it became the Broadway hit *The Matchmaker*, which in turn became a film with Shirley Booth in the title role. In 1964 it was transformed into the very successful stage musical *Hello, Dolly!* Gene Kelly directed Barbra Streisand in the film version, which provided Louis Armstrong with a #1 Billboard hit in the title song. An uncommon edition to find signed.
