Jackson Sr wrote this memorial shortly after his son's death in 1834, and '. he never recovered from this overwhelming loss.' The book 'is an interesting psychological document in that it is entirely objective and almost wholly devoid of any evidence of the deep feeling which prompted him to write it.' [DAB].
