Der ironische Untertitel des Romans wurde in den Ausgaben nach 1945 weggelassen. -- Broschur an den Rändern und Ecken berieben und bestoßen, mit Knickspuren und einigen dezenten Flecken auf der Rückseite des Umschlag. Rücken mit Leseknickspuren und kleinen Fehlstellen am unteren Rücken. Vortitel mit handschriftlichem Besitzeintrag von alter Hand. Sonst und insgesamt noch gut erhaltenes Exemplar der seltenen Vorkriegs- Ausgabe. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 1200.

First UK Edition (first printing), issued a year after the original German edition. 8vo. 315pp. Seemingly a variant binding, in the expected pale blue cloth but with the backstrip lettering in gold not black. The backstrip cloth a little toned, with a touch of bruising to the ends. Free endpapers browned, and with a little spotting to half a dozen preliminary and concluding leaves, and some to very occasional leaf margins. Remnant of a tiny dealer plate to the base of the rear pastedown, and a former owner name neatly inked to the head of the front free endpaper. A very good copy in the uncommon photographic dust wrapper, non-price-clipped but nicked with some loss to the spine panel ends and to several corner tips, and with some creasing, and chafing to the natural folds, and a small area of blemishing to the front panel. The author's most celebrated novel, which she later adapted into a stage play, before it was famously filmed in 1932 staring Greta Garbo (interestingly, the 1932 adaptation remains the only film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture without being nominated in any other category).
