Slight wear to top and bottom of binding on spine. Remainder of text block is tight and intact, and back hinge is in good condition. Old hand signature to first flyleaf page. General age-related toning and foxing to pages. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. Set in India, The Missionary is a love story of a Portuguese missionary and an Indian prophetess, who are both strongly attached to their respective faiths. A celebrated work by Sydney, Lady Morgan (1781-1859, born Sydney Owenson), one of the most prolific Irish and female authors of her time. A unique and scarce early version of the novel.
