These maps of the Labrador Coast were drawn from observations made from seaplanes and aerial photographs. Alexander Forbes was a scientist and medical doctor who taught at Harvard Medical School from 1910-I948. He organized an expedition to the northern third of the Labrador coast in 1931. He mapped the area with over 500 photos taken with a survey camera. The report published by the American Geographical Society in 1938 was based on this initial work, as well as from other trips in I932 and 1935. The original photos are held at the Harvard University Gray Herbarium Archives.
