Merce Cunningham (1920-2009) an American dancer and choreographer who was a highly influential voice in modern American dance for over fifty years. This book provides reproductions from his working notebooks showing the development of his ideas and the creative process used in translating his thoughts into individual dances. There is no indication of the edition; it is presumed to be a first edtion. Original white cloth publisher's covers with blue spine lettering. The covers have some faint dampstaining and there are a few age spots (foxing) at the lower portion of the front and rear covers. There is a small previous owner sticker on the front free end paper, else this is a tight, clean and unmarked book. The dust jacket is in similarly nice condition with no chips, tears, or markings. ; B&W Illustrations, Facsimiles; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; Unpaginated pages.

Bound in white cloth over boards with printed dust jacket. Edited by Frances Starr. This copy nicely inscribed to poet/publisher Bill Corbett and Beverly Corbett. Book is a bit toned at extremities and with a 1/2 in. scuff to top of f.f.e. Jacket is not price clipped and shows mild wear at extremities with a 1/8 in. chip near the crown of the spine. A very good plus copy of an important book.

Dustjacket. 176pp. Clean and very bright with some minor soiling to board edges, in a sharp photographic dustjacket with some minor marginal wear and chipping to the laminate. A very good copy indeed. Internally clean, with a rather cryptically indecipherable signed note from Cunningham laid in, also present is the ink ownership signature of Bessie Schonberg, the immensely talented and renowned choreographer and dancer whose early work as a dancer came to a sudden end due to injury, but who then continued behind the scenes in a long and distinguished career. A very handsome copy of a densely produced, if occasionally incomprehensible, work, and an impressive double association.
