Red transfer staining to edge of title-page. Heavy wear through to card at rounded corners, wear with surface chipping to edgesm surface wear with slight chips & abrasions. Volumes II & III have heavry wear through to card ay lightly rounded corners, surface chips to edges, rubbing to spine-edges, chips with 6-7mm losses to spine-ends, a couple of 2.5cm tears to covering leather at board tops. Volume II has a paper-crack to inner front hinge, light browning/light water-stains to 2 maps. All volumes has reinforcing tape to marbles boards at inne hinges and light surface marks with wear. Then he went to Boston, and was very active in originating plans to secure religious and social privileges for seamen, till that time a neglected class of men. Some of the more prominent institutions for the benefit of sailors that have existed in that city owe their origin to him. He was pastor at the same time of the Green Street church, which he served for twenty-five years. Dr. Jenks was one of the chief founders of the American Oriental Society, and a prominent member of the Massachusetts Historical society. Hier nur der erste von drei Bänden. - Leder an den Kanten deutlich, aber oberflächlich beschabt sowie am Rücken leicht bestoßen und aufgehellt. Titelschild auf dem Rücken mit kleinerer Fehlstelle, Ecken leicht bestoßen und insgesamt leicht angestaubt. Spuren eines entfernten Exlibris auf der vorderen Deckelinnenseite, Innengelenke fachgerecht mit Leinenband verstärkt. Sehr wenige Seiten durch fehlende Pergamin-Hemdchen im Satzspiegel gebräunt, die letzten Seiten oben durch nichtfärbenden Wasserschaden etwas angeschmutzt und fleckig. Einzelnes Blatt (Bildtafel) mit größerem Wasserfleck am Kopfsteg, sonst innen sehr gut. Insgesamt gutes, wenngleich nicht spurlos gealtertes Exemplar der imposanten und umfangreich kommentierten englischen Bibelausgabe. - Only Volume 1 of 3. - Leather clearly, but shallow scraped along the edges. Nameplate on the back in part rubbed off, corners slightly bumped and overall slightly dustyl. Traces of a removed bookplate on the inside of the cover, inside joints professionally reinforced with linen tape. Very few pages browned, the last pages on the upper side a bit soiled and stained by colorless water damage, otherwise very good inside. Raised bands. All edges gilt. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Reverend Thomas Scott on first volume. All three title-pages are steel-engraved. This fascinating Bible with commentary edited by Rev. Thomas Scott had the largest circulation and sustained it through many years. As a commentary Dr. Scott's work was superior to any that had appeared before its time. Horne, usually a discriminating judge, speaks of it in high praise (cf. his Manual of Biblical Bibliography, London, 1839, p. 259). This work is profusely illustrated with numerous full-page steel-engravings, each one with its caption. Some edge wear on bindings with rubbing along joints, corners and head and tail of spines.
