Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. An exceedingly rare, lovely copy of the 1970 Rider/Aquarian edition (first thus) of Lewis Spence's classic book on Atlantis. With a very good unclipped dust jacket, and pages which are immaculate. Spence was a Scottish folklorist and occultist, and became well known for his works on folklore, myths, legends and the occult in general. A well educated journalist, Spence researched and wrote about a range of related themes, and while he's become seen as a forerunner to many more modern writers of this ilk, he was more serious and disciplined in his approach. He looks at Atlantis and its arcane traditions of magic, alchemy, astrology and witchcraft. Largely dismissed by some as pseudo-science, Spence's book was nevertheless an important contribution to populist occult and esoteric literature. This copy is exceptionally good. Pages are bright, crisp and clean, pretty much immaculate. NOT ex-library. NO inscriptions, markings, highlighting or notes. No foxing or noticeable browning. Fore and top edges are lovely, no spotting at all, the dark blue of the top edge has retained its depth. Binding completely tight. Blue boards nice and clean. DJ is really good: not price clipped, just the slightest rubbing to rear, a few minor exposures of white along leading edges, and some minor shelf wear. DJ flaps very good, no browning. Very hard to believe there is a better copy readily available, this has clearly been well looked after for many years. Now covered in a professional, removable clear cover. An excellent copy for the collector. Book will be professionally and safely packaged and delivered. See photos, all of which are of the copy for sale: we don't use stock photos.
