The papers are mostly devoted to the theory of Toeplitz and model operators. These subjects are considered here from various points of view. Several papers concern the relationships of Toeplitz operators to weighted polynomial approximation. Namely, two papers by B. Solomyak and A. Volberg intensively treat the problem of spectra! multiplicity f~r analytic Toeplitz operators (which are, in fact, multiplication operators) and my paper can serve as an introduction to the problem. This theme of multiplicities is continued in a paper by V. Vasyunin where the multiplicity of the spectrum is computed for Hilbert space contractions with finite defect indices. V. Peller's paper deals with a perturbation theory problem for Toeplitz operators. In a paper by D. Yakubovich a new similarity model for a class of Toeplitz operators is constructed. S. Treil' presents a survey of a part of spectral function theory for vector valued function (Szego-Kolmogorov extreme prob!ems for operator weights, bases of vector rational functions, estimations of Hilbert transform with respect to operator weights, the operator corona problem). Several contributed papers focus on the action of linear operators in various function spaces. Recent advances in spectral theory and related topics, operators in indefinite metric spaces, dual algebras and the invariant subspace problem, operator algebras and group representations as well as applications to mathematical physics are presented. The research contacts of the Department of :viathematics of INCREST with the National Committee for Science and Technology of Romania provided means for developing the research activity in mathematics; they represent the generous framework of these meetings too. Conditions on the potential function under which an absolutely continuous spectrum exists are given. A connection is made between the Dirac system and a Riccati equation, and the spectral derivative is expressed using a series solution of the Riccati equation. Conditions under which this series converges are given. The terms of the series are then differentiated to obtain a representation of the second derivative of the spectral function. The question of relative asymptotic sizes of the terms of this representation are addressed. The construction and application of the representation are similar to those used to investigate the spectrum of the Sturm-Liouville operator.

This is evident in the analysis of subnormal operators, Toeplitz operators and Hankel operators, for example. On the other hand the operator theoretic viewpoint of interpolation by analytic functions is a powerful one. There has been significant activity in recent years, within these enriching interactions, and the time seemed right for an overview ot the main lines of development. The Advanced Study Institute 'Operators and Function Theory' in Lancaster, 1984, was devoted to this, and this book contains ex panded versions (and one contraction) of the main lecture prog ramme. These varied articles, by prominent researchers, include, for example, a survey of recent results on subnormal operators, recent work of Soviet mathematicians on Hankel and Toeplitz operators, expositions of the decomposition theory and inter polation theory for Bergman, Besov and Bloch spaces, with applic ations for special operators, the Krein space approach to inter polation problems, -- and much more. It is hoped that these proceedings will bring all this lively mathematics to a wider audience. The derivative, which measures a function's rate of change, is paired with its counterpart, the integral, used for calculating areas and volumes. Together, they form the backbone of differential and integral equations, widely applied in science, technology, and engineering. However, discrepancies between mathematical models and experimental data led to the development of extended integral forms, such as the Riemann-Stieltjes integral and fractional integrals, which integrate functions with respect to another function or involve convolutions with kernels. These extensions also gave rise to new types of derivatives, leading to fractional derivatives and integrals with respect to another function. While there has been limited theoretical exploration in recent years, this book aims to bridge that gap. It provides a comprehensive theoretical framework covering inequalities, nonlinear ordinary differential equations, numerical approximations, and their applications. Additionally, the book delves into the existence and uniqueness of solutions for nonlinear ordinary differential equations involving these advanced derivatives, as well as the development of numerical techniques for solving them.
