In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book provides an overview of different topics related to the theory of partial differential equations. Selected exercises are included at the end of each chapter to prepare readers for the 'research project for beginners' proposed at the end of the book. It is a valuable resource for advanced graduates and undergraduate students who are interested in specializing in this area. The book is organized in five parts:In Part 1 the authors review the basics and the mathematical prerequisites, presenting two of the most fundamental results in the theory of partial differential equations: the Cauchy-Kovalevskaja theorem and Holmgren's uniqueness theorem in its classical and abstract form. It also introduces the method of characteristics in detail and applies this method to the study of Burger's equation.Part 2 focuses on qualitative properties of solutions to basic partial differential equations, explaining the usual properties of solutions to elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic equations for the archetypesLaplace equation, heat equation and wave equation as well as the different features of each theory. It also discusses the notion of energy of solutions, a highly effective tool for the treatment of non-stationary or evolution models and shows how to define energies for different models.Part 3 demonstrates how phase space analysis and interpolation techniques are used to prove decay estimates for solutions on and away from the conjugate line. It also examines how terms of lower order (mass or dissipation) or additional regularity of the data may influence expected results.Part 4 addresses semilinear models with power type non-linearity of source and absorbing type in order to determine critical exponents: two well-known critical exponents, the Fujita exponent and the Strauss exponent come into play. Depending on concrete models these critical exponents divide the range of admissible powers in classes which make it possible toprove quite different qualitative properties of solutions, for example, the stability of the zero solution or blow-up behavior of local (in time) solutions. The last part features selected research projects and general background material.

In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Nonlinear partial differential equations (PDE) are at the core of mathematical modeling. In the past decades and recent years, multiple analytical methods to study various aspects of the mathematical structure of nonlinear PDEs have been developed. Those aspects include C- and S-integrability, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations, equivalence transformations, local and nonlocal symmetries, conservation laws, and more. Modern computational approaches and symbolic software can be employed to systematically derive and use such properties, and where possible, construct exact and approximate solutions of nonlinear equations. This book contains a consistent overview of multiple properties of nonlinear PDEs, their relations, computation algorithms, and a uniformly presented set of examples of application of these methods to specific PDEs. Examples include both well known nonlinear PDEs and less famous systems that arise in the context of shallow water waves and far beyond. The book will beof interest to researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics, physics, and engineering, and can be used as a basis for research, study, reference, and applications.

Computational models are a critical component of mathematical modeling, and partial differential equations (PDEs) offer a powerful approach to solving complex problems in science and engineering. Enhancing Computational Models for Partial Differential Equations provides a comprehensive guide to the development and implementation of computational models, including their potential benefits and challenges. This book examines the current state of computational modeling, its applications, and its implications for PDEs and scientific computing. It also provides practical examples of how computational models can be used to solve PDEs, including through the use of numerical methods, optimization, and machine learning. By understanding the potential of computational models for PDEs, readers can gain insights into the future of scientific computing and the role that computational models can play in promoting scientific discovery and innovation. The book is an essential resource for researchers, scientists, and practitioners interested in computational modeling and PDEs. Publication Year: 2025.
