Zustand: Gut. Erste Auflage dieser Ausgabe. 252 (4) Seiten. Umschlaggestaltung: Christian Diener. Guter Zustand. . Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. John Banting (Dustwrapper design) (illustrator). Second Edition. Second edition - the book was first published September 1939, with a second impression in November 1939. This second edition, published in 1947, was effectively the third impression, using the same-sized illustrated dustwrapper as the first two impressions, with the dustwrapper marked as third impression to the bottom of the front flap. Dustwrapper designed by John Banting. ***Near fine in light-grey cloth-covered boards with dark red titles to the spine. Pale yellow top edge stain by the publisher to match the colour of the dustwrapper. Boards clean and unmarked. No bumps or tears to the cloth. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. Pages clean with no foxing. No creasing or tears. Slight spine lean but spine tight. ***In a near fine colour-illustrated dustwrapper, with the attractive design by John Banting to the front panel. The dustwrapper has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 7s. 6d. net. The dustwrapper is complete, without any chips or tears - just light edge wear and creasing, and there is some clear tape reinforcing to the reverse of the top edge of the rear panel of the dustwrapper. Back panel very clean. Dustwrapper bright. ***188mm x134mm. 255 pages. ***"Party Going" deals with some young people who are going on a holiday. Fog delays them at the station, and when their train leaves four hours later the book ends. Three of them are in love or think they are. The result is entertaining and something more'. (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***'Henry Green was the pen name of Henry Vincent Yorke (29 Oct 1905 - 13 Dec 1973), an English writer best remembered for the novels "Party Going", "Living" and "Loving". He published a total of nine novels between 1926 and 1952.' ***'Frank Kermode maintained in his essay "The Genesis of Secrecy" that behind the realistic plot of this novel there is a complex web of mythical images, the most important being the figure of the classical Greek god Hermes, which is strongly tied to one of the characters. This led Kermode to consider "Party Going" as a Modernist novel, strongly influenced by the ideas of T.S. Eliot.' (Wiki) ***A beautiful copy of the second edition, or third impression, of "Party Going" by Henry Green. Copies from this period are very hard to find now in the original dustwrappers, which were produced on very thin paper, and especially so in such nice condition. Of interest to collectors of the work of Henry Green and the Hogarth Press. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
