Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. iv, 78p, [1] Publishers cloth with the title gilt lettered on the front board. James Booth (1810-1888), a chemist, is most known for having been the melter and refiner at the US Mint in Philadelphia for a number of years. A rather unusual copy because it contain a number of contemporary editorial corrections in the text. The letter 'E' in the word Instructer on the title page has been crossed out and replaced with an 'O'. The phrase 'Second Edition, Enlarged' has been written on the title page just above the author's name and the print date has been crossed out.The correction exercises on the verso of title page has also been crossed out as well as the preface. There are additional hand written changes to the table of content. Most of these editorial changes as well as some in the text match up with the revised edition which James C. Booth published in 1855 and one can only assume that this copy may have played a part of the editorial preparations for the second edition. It is from this perspective rather a rather unusual and remarkable copy as most such copies are often discarded after use. The spine is worn at the head and foot and some rubbing along the edges of the boards. Hinges are a little weak, but holding firm. Slight occasional browning to a few leaves.
