In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the discipline of comparative anatomy and its contributions to human anatomy, physiology, and medicine. Comparative anatomy, a branch of science that examines the structural similarities and differences between animals, plays a significant role in deepening our understanding of the human body. Through the study of various animal species, scientists can trace the evolution and development of organs and systems, providing insights into their functions and potential pathologies. The author argues that comparative anatomy and comparative physiology, which examines the functions of animal organs, are essential tools for medical professionals seeking to improve their knowledge and treatments. By analyzing the vital, auxiliary, and reproductive functions of different animals, the author demonstrates how comparative studies can lead to a more comprehensive understanding of human biology and disease, ultimately paving the way for advancements in medical science. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. London : John Churchill, Princess Street, Soho., 1839, 8°, XII, 478 pp., 6 lith. plates, orig. cloth; rebacked. First Edition! Minimally stained, with ex-libris of Thomas Archer on verso of title page. Bound in front a publisher's catalogue by Churchill "Works of Medicine, Surgery, Midwifery, and the collateral Sciences. London October, 1838. William Benjamin Carpenter (1813-1885) first became known for his handbook "Principles of General and Comparative Physiology" (1839), in which he designed a teaching system for general biology for the first time. In London, he carried out microscopic studies on shell construction and structure as well as on the systematics of foraminifera (monograph 1862). At the Naples Zoological Station, he investigated the structure of hairy stars.[4] In addition to physiological studies, he carried out deep-sea research from 1868. Among other things, he organised the Challenger expedition (1872-1876) and was involved in the discussion about the pseudofossil "Eozoon canadense". He described the ideomotor effect, named after him Carpenter effect, for the first time in 1852. He proposed the "sensory ganglion" (thalamus) as the seat of consciousness in 1853.
