While correcting, the "Enter" key was accidentally pressed, causing the rest of the sentence to move to the next line. Shortly after this was discovered, the print run was stopped and this printing error was corrected. At the same time, the name on the copyright page was changed from 'Joanne Rowling' to 'J.K. Rowling'. According to Bloomsbury approximately 2.500 First State copies with a dropped text error were printed [see Errington, p 187]. Most of these copies have been included in collections over the past twenty years and are very rarely offered for sale. This unread copy is in a marvelous condition, almost like new. The boards have vibrant colours, only very slightly bumped spine ends, corners and cornertips are sharp without any wear or traces of use. The binding is very tight, even still a bit crispy when opening. The pages are exceptionally bright, without the usual toning and without inscriptions, names, dog-ears or other traces of use. The first state dust jacket is inside and outside also in a pristine condition without any fading, discoloration or wear, now protected by a removable Brodart archival cover. One of the most beautiful copies we have ever seen of this very rare and highly collectable book. Comes in a custom-made slipcase.

This copy was signed in August 1999 for David R. McMillan from Dunblane, Scotland. McMillan, intimately associated with Rowling through publicity work, had the privilege of meeting her several times. An original letter detailing his association with Rowling is included with the book. Also accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity (LoA) from Adam Houston (TheHarryPotterSpecialist), the world's sole J.K. Rowling signature expert and an informative collector's card that provides additional details. The DELUXE edition of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was released on July 8, 1999, simultaneously with the trade edition, marking the first installment published by Bloomsbury as a collector's edition. The print run for the initial release is unknown, but it is exceptionally limited. In September 1999, Deluxe editions of the first two volumes followed with a larger print run. All subsequent volumes were released concurrently with the trade edition. Due to its extremely restricted availability, the first print run of this title is the most valuable in the series. This holds true for authentically signed copies, which are exceedingly rare. This particular copy was signed shortly after its release, with only a handful of such signed copies in existence. The book is bound in the publisher's original green cloth and appears unread. The condition is near fine. Handling has caused some slight (hardly noticeable) fading at a few points on the edges of the green cloth, but the boards are without any wear. Minor bumped lower spine end, sharp upper spine end and sharp corners. The green endpapers are unmarked, the pages are clean with very mild toning as usual. The gilded bookends have a few minor marks but still look very good. Overall, a very attractive copy of an exceedingly scarce signed book. Signed by Author(s).

Rowling on October 20th, 2000, in New York City. Ten Scholastic essay contest winners were invited to have lunch with Rowling, one of which was Michael Salka who these books are inscribed to. This very brief visit to New York was Rowling's only meeting with Harry Potter fans in the United States in 2000. These books were sold by Michael himself to Adam Houston in 2022 who has since sold them to myself. Four photographs from the event are included, two photos show all 10 essay winners including Michael along with J.K. Rowling and another shows Michael's mum reading to him with these exact three books at the foot of the bed. Michael's mum passed away in 2022 which led him to sell the books. An amazing set, with a lovely story and fantastic provenance. The Sorcerer's Stone is a paperback 21st printing with an inscription that reads 'To Michael, congratulations, J.K. Rowling.' The Chamber of Secrets is a hardcover 22nd printing with an inscription that reads 'To Michael, a good writer himself! J.K. Rowling.' The Prisoner of Azkaban is a hardcover 7th printing with an inscription that reads 'To Michael, don't let those photographers get you down! J.K. Rowling.' All books are in very good condition. Internally all three of the books are exceptionally clean, they have lovely crisp white pages with no marks, ownership inscriptions or writing of any kind. The first book, the paperback appears unread, with an incredibly tight and square binding. there is some minor damage to the base of the spine approx 1.5cm closed tear of the front cover and the first page. The second and third books are in very similar condition to each other, they both have a slight spine lean, pushed spine tips and base, some minor marks to the boards and some minor shelf wear but overall in very good condition. The dust jackets are both in near fine condition with no colour fading at all and just a minor touch of shelf wear. All three inscriptions come fully authenticated by Adam Houston 'theharrypotterspecialist' the world's leading expert in authenticating Jo's signature. This set comes with a full authentication package including a letter of authenticity and collector card for each book along with four photographs from the event where the books were signed. Estimates of the first state of the print run with the printing error are that only 500 or so of these books with this error were printed before it was quickly corrected, (although today it is believed that more than 500 were printed in the first state). The corrected print run is considered the ?second state? of the first edition. The book in this listing is the ?second state?. (The third state of the first impression was printed with adds of the prior Harry Potter titles to the rear of the book). The book has crisp board with sharp corners, but a bump to the top of the spine. The binding is tight and square and still snaps shut when opened. The end papers are in perfect bright, and unmarked condition with no bookplates, no owner names and no bookstore stamps. The interior pages are clean, bright and flat with no writing, no stains, no bent pages, no foxing, and no age toning. A beautiful first edition book! The stunning original fine condition dust jacket has strong vibrant colors. The outstanding jacket still maintains its original rigidity. The first state occurred during the original print run when the book was first printed with a printing error that was quickly corrected. Estimates of the first state of the print run with the printing error are that only 500 or so of these books with this error were printed before it was quickly corrected, (although today it is believed that more than 500 were printed in the first state). The corrected print run is considered the ?second state? of the first edition. The book in this listing is the ?second state? (The third state of the first impression was printed with adds of the prior Harry Potter titles to the rear of the book). The book has crisp board with sharp corners, with one tiny tip bump. The binding is tight and square. The end papers one small neat owner name, otherwise are in perfect bright, and unmarked condition with no bookplates, and no bookstore stamps. The interior pages are clean, bright and flat with no writing, no stains, no bent pages, no foxing, and no age toning. A beautiful first edition book! The stunning original near fine/fine condition dust jacket has strong vibrant colors. The outstanding jacket still maintains its original rigidity. Bookstores would only allow American copies of Rowling's books to be signed and typically limited the number of copies signed to just one per person. This was when the Harry Potter phenomenon really took off in the US and Rowling signed thousands of copies of the book. In order to meet demand many of Rowling's signatures from this tour appear rushed. The book and dust jacket are in fine condition with no fading at all, the pages are clean with no inscriptions or marks of any kind. The book is unread, the boards are square with sharp corners with no foxing to the text block at all. Some very minor bruising to the spine base otherwise a pristine copy. It comes housed in a purple clamshell box made purposely for this book, with the title and author s name printed in gold leaf to the spine.
