In den Warenkorb1st Edition thus, 8vo (23.5cm), 18pp. staple bound. Blind stampled 'Carnegie Institution of Washington, Division of Plant Biology', to cover. Ink stamp of 'D. T. MacDougal' and a typed presentation message: 'With the compliments of the writer'. Very good. A few minor marks and a closed tear to the spine. A good copy of an interesting evolutionary offprint, gifted by the author to Daniel Trembly MacDougal (1865 - 1958) the American botanist and writer, who himself published a paper titled 'Heredity and the Origin of Species' in 1905. In the present paper Whitman attempts to reconcile orthogenesis (directed 'progressive evolution') with Darwinian natural selection.
