Middle 50 pages have wrinkles at lower half. Pg 36 marginalia has handwriting in red pencil, pgs.81-end have a minor 1/16" closed tear at middle of bottom edge most likely sustained from shelf wear. Otherwise the book is in good condition overall. Text pages are bright and sharp. Binding is decent.

[xxxi]; 160pp. Light bumping and scuffing to corners and spine ends, some sunning of the cloth to the spine ends, corresponding with loss to the dustjacket; internally clean; in a dustjacket that has some fraying and loss to the head of the spine panel, shallow chipping to the tail, and general wear. A good, solid copy with some conspicuous wear to the dustjacket. One of the more influential works on humans as "biocomputers" (a term coined by Lilly), originally published in 1968 and later reprinted in association with the Whole Earth Catalog, as a development of his work at the National Institute of Mental Health. Lilly's theories suggest that human beings are biocomputers operating along the lines of "the analogy of brain being the hardware, the mind being the software and consciousness being beyond both." Extensions of this interpretation, and its possibilities lead Lilly into the realms of sensory deprivation therapies, communication with Dolphins, the use of hallucinogenics for consciousness growth, and the belief that we can program and reprogram ourselves towards improvement and greater functionality. Outlandish, or at the very least considered "fringe" at the time, a number of Lilly's theories began the process of understanding more about human consciousness and the complex nature of the relationships between mind, body, and our perception of external and internal reality.
