Marbled paper is quite faded and several pieces missing from front board; spine leather remains fairly supple with 1/2 inch splits at front cover/spine head and tail joint; tightly bound;… front cover wood has 2 horizontal cracks and has a cloth tape strip on the inner face under pastedown; front pastedown is partially pasted down; small ink gift inscription on front fly dated 1935; clean interior with light foxing and general age darkening; leaves remain supple; owner name in contemporary ink on rear free end paper dated 1801 or 1804. 24mo, 72 pp. Originally issued in 3 parts (cf, Evans, #13050 - 13052; ESTC #W32381, W27896, W27150) was issued single volume 1794 (cf, Evans #27822); this edition dated Jan. 1801 includes the 3 parts. Cf, Sabin #97239B. Author was noted Connecticut poet/satirist, not the painter/patriot John Trumbull, also of Connecticut.
