Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2025 in the subject Economics - Innovation economics, grade: 1,0, University of Hohenheim (Economics), course: Master Seminar in Innovation Economics, language: English, abstract: Red biotechnology, often described as medical biotechnology, represents one of the most transformative areas of modern science and healthcare. It encompasses the development of biopharmaceuticals, gene therapies, and personalized medicine strategies that are reshaping treatment approaches for numerous diseases. This seminar paper aims to examine the relationship of ethical public concerns and their influence on innovation in these fields The global biotechnology sector has experienced rapid growth, driven by advances in molecular biology, genetic engineering, and bioinformatics. Despite its enormous potential, red biotechnology also faces considerable challenges such as high research and development costs, ethical and regulatory complexity, and unequal access to advanced therapies. This paper also aims to examine whether there's a correlation between the ethical acceptance of human embryo genome editing, trust in regulatory institutions, and the benefit perception. This relationship is investigated among 109 medicine students at the University of Ulm through a quantitative survey. Core questions in the survey were whether they are willing to use techniques of gene editing and especially gene editing of embryos. This was tested under different risk factors. Finally, all participants were asked an open question about what they perceive as the biggest problem with human embryo gene editing.…

Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. IntroductionBlue, Red and Green Biotechnology: Principles and Modern ApplicationsBiotechnology is one of the most rapidly advancing fields of modern science, integrating knowledge from biology, chemistry, genetics, microbiology, and engineering to develop technologies that improve human life and the environment. The term biotechnology broadly refers to the use of living organisms, biological systems, or biological processes to produce useful products and services. Over the past few decades, biotechnology has expanded into several specialized branches, among which Blue Biotechnology, Red Biotechnology, and Green Biotechnology represent three major and influential domains. Each of these branches focuses on different biological resources and applications, yet they are interconnected through common scientific principles and technological approaches.Blue biotechnology refers to the use of marine and aquatic organisms for the development of new products and technologies. Oceans cover more than seventy percent of the Earth's surface and harbor an immense diversity of life forms, many of which remain unexplored. Marine microorganisms, algae, invertebrates, and fish possess unique biochemical compounds that have significant potential for pharmaceutical, industrial, and environmental applications. Researchers have discovered numerous bioactive molecules from marine organisms that exhibit antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, marine biotechnology contributes to aquaculture improvement, biofuel production from algae, and environmental monitoring of ocean ecosystems. Because marine organisms live in extreme and diverse conditions such as high pressure, low temperature, and high salinity, they produce specialized enzymes and metabolites that are valuable in industrial biotechnology.Red biotechnology, often referred to as medical biotechnology, focuses on the development of medical and pharmaceutical applications. This branch of biotechnology plays a critical role in improving human health by enabling the development of advanced diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutic proteins, gene therapies, and regenerative medicine. Through techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, scientists can produce life-saving medicines like insulin, growth hormones, monoclonal antibodies, and vaccines. Red biotechnology has also contributed significantly to the understanding of human genetics and the treatment of genetic disorders. Modern tools such as gene editing, molecular diagnostics, and personalized medicine are transforming healthcare by enabling more accurate disease detection and targeted treatment strategies. The emergence of biotechnology-based vaccines and therapeutic approaches has demonstrated the immense potential of this field in combating infectious diseases and chronic illnesses.Green biotechnology, on the other hand, is primarily associated with agricultural biotechnology. It involves the application of biotechnological techniques to improve crop productivity, enhance nutritional value, and develop resistance to pests, diseases, and environmental stresses. As the global population continues to grow, ensuring food security has become a major challenge for scientists and policymakers. Green biotechnology provides innovative solutions through the development of genetically modified crops, marker-assisted breeding, and plant tissue culture techniques. These technologies enable the production of crops that require fewer chemical inputs, tolerate adverse environmental conditions, and produce higher yields. Additionally, green biotechnology contributes to sustainable agriculture by promoting environmentally friendly farming practices and reducing the environmental impact of traditional agricultural methods. Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Biotechnology has emerged as one of the most transformative scientific disciplines of the modern era. By combining principles from biology, chemistry, genetics, and engineering, biotechnology has opened new avenues for improving human life and addressing some of the most pressing medical challenges. Among the various branches of biotechnology, Red Biotechnology plays a particularly significant role because it focuses on the application of biotechnology in medicine and healthcare. The primary goal of red biotechnology is to develop innovative approaches for diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases. Over the past few decades, rapid progress in molecular biology, genetics, and biomedical engineering has revolutionized the field of medicine. Modern biotechnology has made it possible to produce life-saving drugs, develop advanced diagnostic tools, and explore new therapies for previously untreatable diseases. One of the most remarkable achievements in biotechnology was the discovery of the structure of DNA by James Watson and Francis Crick. This breakthrough laid the foundation for understanding genetic information and opened the door to numerous scientific innovations. Later developments, such as recombinant DNA technology and genome sequencing, further accelerated research in biotechnology and medicine. The completion of the Human Genome Project marked another milestone in the history of biotechnology. By mapping the entire human genome, scientists gained valuable insights into genetic diseases and the molecular basis of many health conditions. This knowledge has enabled researchers to design targeted therapies and improve the effectiveness of medical treatments.Today, red biotechnology is responsible for many of the medical advances that improve the quality of life for millions of people worldwide. Biotechnology-based medicines, also known as biopharmaceuticals, include vaccines, recombinant proteins, and monoclonal antibodies. For example, the large-scale production of Insulin through recombinant DNA technology has significantly improved the management of diabetes and has benefited millions of patients globally. In addition to therapeutic products, biotechnology has also transformed diagnostic methods. Modern diagnostic techniques allow scientists and physicians to detect diseases quickly and accurately, often before symptoms appear. Early detection plays a crucial role in effective treatment and disease prevention.Another important development in medical biotechnology is gene therapy. This innovative approach involves correcting or replacing defective genes to treat genetic disorders. Advances in genome editing technologies such as CRISPR-Cas9 have provided researchers with powerful tools to modify DNA with unprecedented precision. These technologies hold great promise for treating inherited diseases and improving human health.Stem cell research and regenerative medicine also represent exciting areas within red biotechnology. Scientists are exploring ways to repair or replace damaged tissues and organs using stem cells and tissue engineering techniques. These developments may eventually provide solutions for conditions that currently have limited treatment options. The integration of biotechnology with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and bioinformatics is further expanding the possibilities of medical research. These interdisciplinary approaches are enabling scientists to analyze complex biological data, design new drugs, and develop innovative medical devices.Despite its many benefits, red biotechnology also raises important ethical, social, and regulatory questions. Issues related to genetic modification, stem cell research, and data privacy require careful consideration. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
