Seit 1900 a.o.Prof., wurde er 1902 Vorstand der Medizinischen Poliklinik in München, 1903 o.Prof. der Inneren Medizin und Direktor der Medizinischen Poliklinik, der Kinderklinik und des Pharmakologischen Instituts in Erlangen, 1906 Ordinarius und Direktor der Medizinischen Klinik in Basel und war von 1907 bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1933 in gleicher Stellung in Gießen tätig.
