Erstausgabe
Hard Cover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 3rd Edition, First Thus. Text/Near New, showing trace margin discoloration. Silver lettering & illustration to mottled brown & black boards, and gilt lettering to black backstrap/VG; strong & sound w/edge rubs. Soiling to leading edges to fEp though pg 20, and again sporadically to various pages from water splash to leading edge. PO plate & name to fEP. First published 1938; substantially revised and enlarged in 1947; this is the 3rd Edition w/an added Supplement. Doubly, or triplely, interesting about this 3rd Edition is that the treatise includes foreign military rifles as well --- these were brought into the US by ex-GI's who had legal and official Army permission to keep them as souvenirs. Captain Sharpe does say, ". the average of these foreign weapons isn't worth a tinker's dam", nevertheless, the foreign arms became items of singular interest. On the domestic front, World War II brought newcomers that are here examined: the Carbine M1 (the Winchester) and the Johnson rifle. The added Supplement gives a review of the most important developments since the 2nd Edition of 1947. Strong copy despite flaws.
