First Edition. Horizontal 8vo, pp. 157. Chronology, index. Copiously illustrated in color and black-and-white. Brown paper over boards. A nice copy in slightly soiled dj. Landscape artist Badmin (born in 1906) is famed in England for his watercolors and etchings, but "the recording of the skills and traditions of the British countryside such as thatching is one of Badmin's most important contributions to post-war life," according to Beetles, a London art dealer. Here he has assembled some 44 of the artist's watercolors, with a catalogue raisonne of his etchings. Beetles provides a brief, informative history of Badmin's career and development as a fine artist, and discusses his commercial illustrations for advertising and greeting cards. The collection serves as a virtual travelogue for its home audience, who are invited by Beetles 'to look again at the countryside around us' which includes Findon, Clovelly, Ratley and other villages unfamiliar to American readers.".

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. Landscape quarto 260mm x 200mm. 157 pp including index. Brown, cloth boards, front bears one, tiny abrasion to top right-hand corner else fine. The jacket is neatly clipped with minimal edge wear and, a short, closed tear to the fore edge at the rear expertly repaired with paper archival tape to the underside making the tear imperceptible. Signed by S.R. Badmin to the half-title. No other inscriptions or blemishes. Stanley Roy Badmin [1906-1989] was an English watercolourist, perhaps most immediately familiar to the British public through his railway posters. His vision of a settled, rural England, is undramatic, emphasising the slow change of seasons and unhurried pace of the inhabitants. There is a strong sense of a lost world in his work, an Arcadia now past, but the craftsmanship and his tangible love for these scenes raise the paintings above mere nostalgia.
