Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Interest in the lentivirus subfamily of retroviruses has greatly intensified due to the realization that HIV-1 and HIV-2 are members of this previously obscure group. Related lentiviruses have now been isolated from sheep, goats, horses, cattle, cats, monkeys, and humans. This issue of CTMI is devoted to the lentiviruses of nonhuman primates, referred to as simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIVs). The SIVs provide valuable tools for our quest to understand and control the HIVs, which are obviously important new human pathogens. Included in this volume are discussions of the distribution and molecular phylogeny of the SIVs and their use as animal models for the study of AIDS pathogenesis, and the chapters clearly illustrate how SIV models are contributing to our understanding of the ability of host immune responses to control infection at least temporarily and the ability of virus to evade these host immune defenses.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIVs) are diverse group of viruses that naturally infect a wide range of African primates, including African Green Monkeys (AGMs). It has been shown that in vivo passage of SIV in rhesus macaque results in selection of pathogenic virus that causes Simian Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. However, adult AGMs infected with Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) do not show clinical signs of immunodeficiency. Virus isolation and Seroconversion confirmed successful SIVagm passage in new-born AGMs. After one year, all the animals did not show clinical symptoms related to SIVagm infection. Bone marrow transfusions from SIVagm infected new-born into naive new-borns induced persistent infection and anti-SIV antibody response. However, this did not show presence of disease suggesting that AGMs possess inherent resistance that either kill SIVagm or render immune cells of AGMs non-functional. The results provide valuable information important in investigating the lack of SIV disease pathogenesis in AGMs. 68 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In genetics, complementary DNA (cDNA) is DNA synthesized from a mature mRNA template in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme reverse transcriptase. cDNA is often used to clone eukaryotic genes in prokaryotes. When scientists want to express a specific protein in a cell that does not normally express that protein, they will transfer the cDNA that codes for the protein to the recipient cell. cDNA is also produced by retroviruses (such as HIV-1, HIV-2, Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, etc.) which is integrated into its host to create a provirus.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - In 2007, approximately 33 million people were living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, while an estimated 2.5 million new infections occurred and 2.1 million AIDS-related deaths. With >95% of new infections occurring in low and middle income countries with limited access to antiretroviral therapy, the development of a prophylactic HIV vaccine remains one of the world's top public health priorities. Many studies illustrate the important role of CD8+ T lymphocytes, also known as cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL), in controlling HIV and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) replication. However, the correlates of immune protection remain unknown. The SIV-infected rhesus macaque is the most widely used animal model for studying HIV infection. We enhanced the utility of this model by evaluating the breadth of novel, SIV-specific CTL responses in infected macaques. We then examined the antiviral efficacy of these SIV-specific CTL using a novel viral suppression assay. This information may be important in determining the type of CTL epitopes to be targeted in future HIV vaccines. This research should be especially useful for those studying cellular immune responses against AIDS-virus infection.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Interest in the lentivirus subfamily of retroviruses has greatly intensified due to the realization that HIV-1 and HIV-2 are members of this previously obscure group. Included in this volume are discussions of the distribution and molecular phylogeny of the SIVs and their use as animal models for the study of AIDS pathogenesis, and the chapters clearly illustrate how SIV models are contributing to our understanding of the ability of host immune responses to control infection at least temporarily and the ability of virus to evade these host immune defenses.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 260 pp. Englisch.…
