First edition, inscribed by Charles Spencer on the title page "to Liz, Charles Spencer". Privately printed for Earl Spencer, the book reproduces the text of the eulogy he gave for his sister, Princess Diana, at her funeral in Westminster Abbey in 1997. Televised across the world, Earl Spencer's speech, in which he attacked the media for hounding Diana and by implication the royal family for their coldness to her, was an extraordinary part of the funeral; very unusually for a funeral oration, the attendees, following the crowd outside, applauded the speech at his emotional conclusion. The book is attractively printed and presents well in its protective box; aside from copies presented by Earl Spencer to friends and family, the volume was sold to visitors at his Althorp estate, where Diana is buried. Quarto. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, printed label to front cover within gilt panelling, marbled endpapers. Housed in the original blue card box, Althorp device to lid. Slight crease to pages, box a little scuffed and soiled, very good.
