Bound in half red morocco; rubbed & worn, leading hinge weakening. Armorial bookplate of March Neven Du Mont. Reader was a songwriter and amateur entertainer, born in about 1819. He is one of the 'Three Eastbourne Idlers' (Thomas, and probably his children, Henry and Elizabeth Reader), and wrote the words for a song set to music by Richard Galpin, published and inserted here, also forming part of their 'Conrad & Lucy', privately printed in 1902. In 1894, aged about 75, Reader assembled this collection of biographical material, photographs of his wife and friends, an early silhouette portrait and copies of his poems and songs, some with music, in chronological order, forming a record of his life. Other insertions include the privately printed 'A Rime of ye faire Sophia', Christemasse 1856, photographs of his horse and carriage, and of his coachman and family.
