Corresponde al Cuarteto de cuerdas n.º 8 en Mi menor, Op.…59 n.º 2, segundo de los tres célebres Cuartetos "Razumovsky", compuestos por Ludwig van Beethoven entre 1805 y 1806 por encargo del conde Andréi Razumovsky, embajador ruso en Viena. Los Cuartetos Razumovsky representan un punto de inflexión en la historia del cuarteto de cuerdas. En ellos Beethoven amplía considerablemente las dimensiones formales, profundiza el desarrollo temático y lleva el diálogo entre los cuatro instrumentos a un nivel de complejidad hasta entonces desconocido. El Opus 59 n.º 2 destaca por su poderoso Allegro inicial, el extraordinario Molto Adagio, considerado una de las páginas más sublimes del compositor, y un brillante movimiento final que incorpora referencias al folclore ruso, homenaje al dedicatario de la obra. La presente edición reproduce la partitura completa en formato de bolsillo, impresa en Inglaterra por Boosey & Hawkes, con excelente calidad de grabado y gran legibilidad.
