In computer programming, a shim is a small library that transparently intercepts an API, changing the parameters passed, handling the operation itself, or redirecting the operation elsewhere. Shims typically come about when the behaviour of an API changes, thereby causing compatibility issues for older applications that still rely on the older functionality. In these cases, the older API can still be supported by a thin compatibility layer on top of the newer code. Shims can also be used to run programs on different software platforms than they were developed for.…

Back Orifice is acontroversial computer program designed for remote systemadministration. It enables a user to control a computer running theMicrosoft Windows operating system from a remote location. The name is aword play on Microsoft BackOffice Server software. Back Orifice wasdesigned with a client- server architecture. A small and unobtrusiveserver program is installed on one machine, which is remotelymanipulated by a client program with a graphical user interface onanother computer system. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In computer networking, theTransport Layer Interface (TLI) was the networking API provided byAT&T UNIX System V Release 3 (SVR3) in 1987 and continued intoRelease 4 (SVR4). TLI was the System V counterpart to the BSD socketsprogramming interface, which was also provided in UNIX System V Release4 (SVR4). TLI was later standardized as XTI, the X/Open TransportInterface. It was originally expected that the OSI protocols wouldsupersede TCP/IP, thus TLI is designed from an OSI model-orientedviewpoint, corresponding to the OSI transport layer. Otherwise, TLIlooks similar, API-wise, to sockets. TLI and XTI were widely used andup to UNIX 98, were preferred over the POSIX Sockets API. TLI and XTIare still supported in SVR4-derived operating systems and operatingsystems conforming to branded UNIX (UNIX 95, UNIX 98 and UNIX 03 SingleUNIX Specifications) such as Solaris (as well as 'classic' Mac OS, inthe form of Open Transport). Under UNIX 95 (XPG4) and UNIX 98 (XPG5.2)XTI was the preferred and recommended supported API for new transportprotocols.…
