Five inscribed titles, late in the prolific career of staff writer of The New Yorker, novelist and screenwriter Eric Hatch (1901 - 1973), inscribed to prominent resident, Tracy Griswold, of Litchfield CT, where Hatch lived in his later years. Hatch was best known for comic novels, his most consequential "1101 Park Ave (1935 ) which was the basis for the classic screwball comedy "My Man Godfrey" (1936), starring William Powell and Carole Lombard, which he co-authored and for which he received an Oscar nomination. He then co-authored another screwball classic "Topper" (1937), starring Cary Grant and Constance Bennett. In Litchfield, Hatch was active in civic and social affairs, including the vibrant riding and carriage scene, which is the topic of some of the books in this lot.
