Hardcover. Zustand: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Ex-lending library (Bullock's Department store) First edition hardcover, bound in gray cloth, with dark red lettering on front cover and spine, is in POOR condition, having a strip of glue with a remnant of some paper attached on front cover, along with bumped and worn corners, and much griming and rubbing to covers; spine is quite darkened; in the last endpaper section, on the last free endpaper, the lending library attached some borrowing sheets (with stamps and names); very slight shaking to pages; pages are printed on rather inexpensive paper, and the paper has the normal darkening expected through the years; there is much handling wear to volume; on last endpaper the library glued down the back flap from the now-gone dust jacket (see photo), and there is an "x" and the number "39" written in pencil on last fixed endpaper; it looks like the library glued the front dust jacket flap onto the first fixed endpaper some time ago--but it has become loose, and is included. A scarce item to find in first edition. Fiction. Novel. British. Classics. 20th century. DB.

Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. London: Cape, 1967. 1st edition (soft cover only), Woolmer A7, issue w/o sticker (no priority), NF/. Stapled wraps has a few spots on front cover, else fine. The pamphlet-size pb has been housed in a hand-made(?) hardcover with two folding paper flaps (each folded twice), affixed to the rear cover to keep the book from falling out. One page letter (1945) from Cape to Lowry, asking if Cape can edit portions of the book. Cape is uneasy publishing it as it stands. Lowry answers (1946) answers Cape in a 32 page response, pleading for the draft to be untouched and published as is. Lowry defends himself admirably. Nice copy, kind of scarce.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry 1947 First Edition - First State Jacket Ex-Lib; Often regarded as one of the greatest works of 20th century literature Under the Volcano depicts the tragic disintegration of an alcoholic British consul living in Mexico reflective of the broader disintegration of society amidst the Spanish civil war. The book takes place within a single day yet traverses the entire lifetime of our hero, or victim, Geoffrey Firmin, whose life is inextricably tied to that of Lowry's.Lowry masterfully displays the illusory control, the utter incoherence, at other times crystal lucidity of Firmin, as he drifts between inebriation and severe inebriation in what is the best literary depiction of alcoholism. VG+ book, slight forward lean to spine, firm binding, stamps to front and rear end papers. Less marks than typical ex-lib.No card pocket past or present. VG- DJ sticker mark to Spine, mild rubbing and a few small closed tears.
