Signed limited edition of the complete works of the writings of Joseph Conrad, one of 780 copies. Octavo, 20 volumes, original cloth. Signed by Joseph Conrad on the limitation page of volume one. In near fine condition. Polish-British writer Joseph Conrad is widely considered one of the greatest novelists of the English language. Writing near the peak of the British Empire, Conrad drew, among other things, on his native Poland's national experiences and on his own experiences in the French and British merchant navies, to create short stories and novels that reflect aspects of a European-dominated worldâ"including imperialism and colonialismâ"and that profoundly explore the human psyche. Conrad's best known novels and short stories include Heart of Darkness (1899), Lord Jim (1900), Nostromo (1904), and The Arrow of Gold (1919).

Signed limited edition of the complete works of Joseph Conrad, signed by Joseph Conrad on the limitation-page of Volume I. Octavo, 20 volumes, finely bound in three quarters morocco, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. One of 780 copies signed by Conrad. In near fine condition. A nice set. Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British writer regarded as one of the greatest novelists to write in the English language. He joined the British merchant marine in 1878, and was granted British nationality in 1886. Though he did not speak English fluently until he was in his twenties, he was a master prose stylist who brought a non-English sensibility into English literature. Conrad is considered an early modernist, though his works still contain elements of 19th-century realism. "His narrative style and anti-heroic characters have influenced many authors, including T. S. Eliot, William Faulkner, Graham Greene, and Salman Rushdie" (John Stape, The Many Lives of Joseph Conrad).
