Black and white recto depicts two nearly identical side-by-side scenes: at left a woman seated in a Victorian parlor sews by candlelight, straining to see the work in her lap while a cloud above her…head indicates she dreams of sitting comfortably in front of a proper tabletop newfangled sewing machine; at right a women sits in front of just such a machine -- domestic bliss! Verso is blank.

In den WarenkorbA nicely preserved folding pamphlet advertising Davis brand sewing machines, a line of vertical feed machines marketed to women as labor saving devices for making domestic tasks easy and efficient. Includes a lengthy pitch for the products, with a price list for the different models and accessories (hemmers, braiders, quilters,…rufflers, etc.). Lists dozens of benefits of this line of machines (e.g. "make plaited trimming and sew on at the same time", "It will sew the cord on the edges of military coats, jackets, &c."). Seven of the models are illustrated with model numbers. Measures approx. 5.5" by 3.25" folded, 11" by 13" unfolded. Printed in brown and black. Ink stamp of sales agent. The Davis Sewing Machine Company was founded in 1868 and became known for the efficiency of their "vertical feed" machines. By 1892, they had also began producing bicycles and eventually stopped producing sewing machines to meet the 1890s bicycle craze. Very good. Light toning, a couple minor short tears.
