Zustand: Fine in very good plus jacket. First edition thus. Exceptionally scarce entirely intact first state of the "Waddle Book" version of the American classic, published with 6 figures meant to be punched out and used as toys. The "waddle" book is designed with die-cut figures that can be assembled into full 3D color figures, including Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Wizard and the Lion. When the figures are assembled using the metal fasteners, they can actually move down the ramp without contrivances. This copy includes all 6 waddle figures (entirely unpunched), the ramp, the fasteners, the original pictorial band that goes around the ramp, and the original envelope. Instructions for assembling the figures are in the rear. This is a Baum book of the utmost rarity with few copies surviving with the waddles intact and unpunched. 9'' x 7.25''. Original green cloth, pictorial paste-on, publisher's imprint at foot of spine. In original unclipped ($1.00) color pictorial dust jacket. Original pictorial envelope containing the ramp and fasteners. 3 bi-folded sheets with 6 color waddle figures, unpunched but no longer bound in. Illustrated with 8 color plates. [8], 211 pages (printed count skips illustrations but contains numbered text pages on versos). 1934 Christmas gift inscription on front free endpaper. Some spotting and toning to endpapers, spine lean. Jacket with a few small chips and closed tears.

Film Tie-In edition, released in tandem with the 1939 legendary MGM Musical adaptation of L. Frank Baum's children's literature high spot. Denslow's black & white line illustrations from the original 1900 Wizard Of Oz first edition, some full-page, are also found throughout. The volume is exceedingly Fine, virtually faultless, and the original priced (5/-) dust jacket is very nearly Fine as well (just lightly used, a tiny bit soft at the spine tip, a small flap clip, and with no restoration or repair). Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz is the fourth installment in L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz series, which ultimately outlived him. This copy includes a dust jacket, though the dust jacket is only in fair to good condition. There is a piece missing on the bottom left of the dust jacket, see cover. There is also a tear along the outside edge of the front cover, and along the rear bottom of the back cover along the bottom outside edge. The dust jacket also has scuffing near the book's endcaps along the spine, and its edges. The book itself, however, is almost in fine condition. The cover under the dust jacket is unblemished, as is the spine and rear cover. This book is dedicated to William Page Slagle Jr. in 1937, meaning it could not have been printed later than that year. Since it does not have color plates, it must have been printed after 1935, meaning it was printed between 1935 and 1937. Also, Handy Mandy in Oz was published in 1937, and that's the latest book written in the series at the time of this copy's publication. During this period, an Oz book came out every year. So this book was printed before the Silver Princess in Oz was published in 1938, meaning its earliest printing was the run after color plates were no longer used, and its latest printing was that right before The Silver Princess in Oz. William Page Slagle Jr. put his name in the section of the book that says "this book belongs to". All interior markings are in pencil and could be removed, they have been left in by this collector to the buyer's discretion. There is a sticker above the initial inscription, and the inscription indicates this book was given to young Slagle by his mother on Christmas. See pictures. All pages sit firmly in the binding and this collector observed no other markings. 226 Numbered Pages.
