ABOUT THE AUTHOR: The author of this book is William Thomas who was born in Vancouver in 1943. His father was J. Alan Thomas, who was a principal and inspector in the British Columbia school system. At the age of 41 the elder Thomas went back to school and became a professor and then dean of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Education. William Thomas's mother was born Ester Watt and raised on a farm in Saskatchewan. During the depression her family moved to Vancouver where she became a teacher. Her younger brother, Frank Watt, was a Rhodes Scholar and is now a professor of English at the University of Toronto. William Thomas attended schools in British Columbia, California and Chicago, graduating from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in English in 1966. He has travelled widely in Canada and the United States and supported himself by working at various jobs, such as tax assessor, railroad labourer, mail handler and telephone solicitor. Since childhood he has written plays and short stories. Daddy's Darling Daughter is his first published novel. He is now living in Toronto and working on a second book.
