Volume I of a three volume set which, when completed, contained paintings of every Banksia species described at the time. According to the publisher, the set represented the first time that an entire genus of this magnitude had been painted and reproduced. So significant was this work that each volume of The Banksias was presented to the Queen of England by the Australian Government as a gift of the Australian people. Further, largely on the basis of her work for The Banksias , Rosser was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia 1995 for her contribution to botanical art, and the Jill Smythies Award for botanical art in 1997. Large/Atlas+ folio (30.75" x 22"). Half-bound in dark green hide with matching buckram sides and gold gilt embossing on the spine and cover. Volume 1 contains 24 full page plates. This copy is numbered 112 of 730 books, plus 50 loose-leaf portfolio copies, that were produced. The book is overall in extremely good condition without noticeable fading to cover or spine, and minimal wear and markings. Specifically, there is a small indentation to front cover at junction between hide and buckram approximately 1/3rd of the way up on right side, the front and back free-endpaper with what appears to be glue residue lines, and the second front flyleaf page with fold creases approximately 1/3rd of the way from the hinge.
