Color frontispiece and numerous black & white drawings by the author. Not only a wonderful artist and consummate illustrator, Hodges was also an authority on Elizabethan theatre, and this lovely story of the emergence of the Globe Playhouse will appeal to adults as well as children. Neat little inscription on half-title (unsigned - could be by Hodges?). Bright blue boards with some scattered staining on upper cover. Edges and endpapers very slightly browned and spotted, otherwise a very good copy indeed in very good, slightly rubbed and browned dust jacket with minor edgewear and nicks to extremities. An attractive copy of this true first printing.
