Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -The original edition of this book has been out of print for some years. The appear ance of the present second edition owes much to the initiative of Yves Nievergelt at Eastern Washington University, and the support of Ann Kostant, Mathematics Editor at Birkhauser. Since the book was first published, several people have remarked on the absence of exercises and expressed the opinion that the book would have been more useful had exercises been included. In 1997, Yves Nievergelt informed me that, for a decade, he had regularly taught a course at Eastern Washington based on the book, and that he had systematically compiled exercises for his course. He kindly put his work at my disposal. Thus, the present edition appears in two parts. The first is essentially just a reprint of the original edition. I have corrected the misprints of which I have become aware (including those pointed out to me by others), and have made a small number of other minor changes.Springer Basel AG in Springer Science + Business Media, Heidelberger Platz 3, 14197 Berlin 404 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Time-frequency analysis is a modern branch of harmonic analysis. It com prises all those parts of mathematics and its applications that use the struc ture of translations and modulations (or time-frequency shifts) for the anal ysis of functions and operators. Time-frequency analysis is a form of local Fourier analysis that treats time and frequency simultaneously and sym metrically. My goal is a systematic exposition of the foundations of time-frequency analysis, whence the title of the book. The topics range from the elemen tary theory of the short-time Fourier transform and classical results about the Wigner distribution via the recent theory of Gabor frames to quantita tive methods in time-frequency analysis and the theory of pseudodifferential operators. This book is motivated by applications in signal analysis and quantum mechanics, but it is not about these applications. The main ori entation is toward the detailed mathematical investigation of the rich and elegant structures underlying time-frequency analysis. Time-frequency analysis originates in the early development of quantum mechanics by H. Weyl, E. Wigner, and J. von Neumann around 1930, and in the theoretical foundation of information theory and signal analysis by D.Springer Basel AG in Springer Science + Business Media, Heidelberger Platz 3, 14197 Berlin 380 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -A transfinite graph or electrical network of the first rank isobtained conceptually by connecting conventionally infinite graphs andnetworks together at their infinite extremities. This process can berepeated to obtain a hierarchy of transfiniteness whose ranks increasethrough the countable ordinals. This idea, which is of recent originhas enriched the theories of graphs and networks with radically newconstructs and research problems. The book provides a more accessible introduction to the subject thatthough sacrificing some generality, captures the essential ideas oftransfiniteness for graphs and networks. Thus, for example, someresults concerning discrete potentials and random walks on transfinitenetworks can now be presented more concisely. Conversely, thesimplifications enable the development of many new results that werepreviously unavailable.Topics and features: \*A simplified exposition provides an introductionto transfiniteness for graphs and networks.\*Various results forconventional graphs are extended transfinitely. \*Minty's powerfulanalysis of monotone electrical networks is also extendedtransfinitely.\*Maximum principles for node voltages in lineartransfinite networks are established. \*A concise treatment of randomwalks on transfinite networks is developed. \*Conventional theory isexpanded with radically new constructs.Mathematicians, operations researchers and electrical engineers, inparticular, graph theorists, electrical circuit theorists, andprobabalists will find an accessible exposition of an advancedsubject.Springer Basel AG in Springer Science + Business Media, Heidelberger Platz 3, 14197 Berlin 200 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Surely most geodesists have been occupied by seeking optimal shapes of a net work. I'm no exception. This book contains the more fruitful results on the topic. No matter how you choose to understand the adjective 'optimal,' it is no doubt useful as a beginning to understand error propagation in various types of net works. Basically, geodesists are familar with the actual, discrete network. So this book brings together some elementary means of analyzing networks with a few hundred points. The effectofchanging boundary conditions is especially studied. The variance propagation in the network is derived from covariance matrices. During a symposium in Oxford in 1973 geodesists were asking: Is it possible to create a special theory for geodetic networks The key is that geodetic networks share a fundamental characteristic: The connections are local. Observations are taken between neighbors. The underlying graph has no edges connecting distant points. And we can obtain stable information about the global problem for the whole network by solving a simpler problem for a local neighborhood within the network. This bookalso deals with networktheory in acontinuousmode. When the num ber of points becomes very large, it is natural to look for a substitute for the dis crete method. The fruitful transition from discreteness to continuum is to let the distance between points tend to zero and at the same time boundcertain functions. A major step is to redefine the weights for all observationsas weightperunitarea.Springer Basel AG in Springer Science + Business Media, Heidelberger Platz 3, 14197 Berlin 188 pp. Englisch.
