Nine stories culled from M.I. Ebbutt's Hero Myths and Legends of the British Race, originally published in 1910. The stories collected in this edition have been reset in a modern typeface, but retain every detail - content, spelling and orthography - of the originals in order to preserve the flavour of the time and the nature of Ebbutt's writing. Johns Matthews has written an introductory essay to each story, providing the background, context and relevant historical or mythological origins of the tales. Completely free of previous owner inscriptions, names, or bookplates; internally immaculate, tight, and clean all round. Housed in the original, virtually complete dust jacket featuring the distinctive 'Hampton Library' cartouche at the spine base. The jacket remains unclipped, displaying the original 3/6d net price on the inside flap. Shows minor chipping to the spine head, rubbing to the outer panels and edges, and a tiny area of loss at the base of one joint crease with a light associated wrinkle.
